American entrepreneurs will place the first commercial greenhouse on the ISS
According to Kommersant, the American company Redwire Corporation announced that it plans to launch the first commercial greenhouse in the history of astronautics with a full cycle of growing plants into Earth orbit.
The greenhouse will be placed on the ISS. The grown plants will be delivered to Earth, where scientists will conduct detailed studies on the safety of eating space vegetables.
“Producing a full-fledged crop in space will be critical for the future of space exploration, since plants not only carry nutritional value, but also produce oxygen and regenerate water. Increasing the production of plants in space in commercial volumes will be an important step for the development of new projects”,
Redwire Corporation said.
It is worth noting that Soviet cosmonauts began to cultivate in small different cultures in space in the 1970s. The main problem of growing plants in space is the lack of water, air and soil. In addition, the full development of plant tissues is inhibited by low gravity.
Previously, Neva.Today said that European and American inventors have created a plasma plant for the production of oxygen on Mars.
