24 kinds of flowers will decorate the streets of the city. With the onset of heat, they began to be planted in flower beds, in flowerpots and boxes on fences. In case this summer turns out to be as dry as the last one, hydrogel is added to the pots in addition to the soil.
Thousands of flowers move from Tonshalovo greenhouses to the open Cherepovets sky. Due to the cold May weather, the move happened with some delay, however, the contractor promises to complete it by June 15th. Now the work is completed by a quarter. So, flowers have already decorated the flower beds at the intersections of Lenin and Stalevarov, Arkhangelskaya and Krasnodontsev.
“We have already begun to exhibit vertical gardening, bowls, boxes, we are planting flowers in flowerbeds,” said Nikolai Khokhlov, director of the Tonshalovsky greenhouse complex. – Due to the cold weather, we started 7-10 days later, but we will try to do everything in time. During the year, we also have to annoy something: flowers can be stolen or trampled.
Flower seedlings at the enterprise are grown by themselves in a greenhouse with an area of 7,000 square meters. Sowing began in February. About half a million flowers are planted for the city. Flowers are annuals. As experts explain, they have a longer flowering period.
“Mainly these are marigolds, petunias, begonias, violas, celosia,” says agronomist-florist Marina Fokina. – Each species has varieties and colors. For bowls and boxes, we use petunias, which have stronger stems and are more resistant to wind and rain.
Last summer was very hot – what if this one turns out to be the same? In this case, according to Marina Fokina, they decided to try using a hydrogel. These are special granules that are saturated with water during irrigation or rain, and then gradually release moisture to the roots of plants.
– Flowers in the city are enough to be watered two or three times a week. But if it’s very hot, you have to do it every other day. Watered either early in the morning or in the evening. It is not recommended to do this during the day, – says Marina Fokina.
In total, 192 arches and 23 vertical planter structures will be installed on the streets. 800 flower boxes will be hung on road barriers. There are also 26 flower benches located on Khimiki Square, Sovetsky Prospekt and at the bus station.
Tulips have already blossomed in Cherepovets in May. This time, 60,000 bulbs were planted, while in previous years their number did not exceed 45,000.
