To provide Russians with fresh vegetables of their own production all year round and not depend on import supplies in the off-season – intensive development of greenhouse projects in our country is aimed at solving this problem. In recent years, production capacities in this area have increased significantly. So, for 8 years in Russia, about 1.7 thousand winter greenhouses have been built, reconstructed and modernized.
Only since the beginning of this year, the work of several large complexes in different regions of the country has been launched. For example, in the Moscow region, Agrokultura Group launched the fifth stage of an investment project for growing vegetables and berries on 20 hectares, and in the Kaliningrad region, Orbita-Agro almost doubled its capacity. Currently, more than 50 complexes with a total area of at least 450 hectares and a capacity of about 300 thousand tons of products are under construction in Russia.
Investment development is reflected in production indicators. Since the beginning of the year, 278.6 thousand tons of vegetables have already been grown in winter greenhouses, which is 10.9% more than in the same period last year. Including the harvest of greenhouse cucumbers amounted to 174.6 thousand tons (+8.8%), and tomatoes – 86 thousand tons (+14.1%).
The leaders in growing greenhouse vegetables are Lipetsk, Moscow, Kaluga, Volgograd, Belgorod, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, the republics of Mordovia and Tatarstan.
The development of enterprises is helped by state support measures, in particular, preferential investment loans and “stimulating” subsidies. In addition, for the regions of the Far East, where the issue of year-round provision of consumers with vegetables is especially relevant, there is a mechanism for compensating part of the costs of building greenhouses.
