Strawberries are grown by a farmer from the Bakhchisarai district using the Hydroponics system. Thanks to this technology, the berry can be harvested all year round.

This was made possible thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Crimea. In 2021, the head of the peasant farm Emil Bariev received a grant for the implementation of the project “Cultivation of strawberries in the garden of the closed ground”. With the funds received, I purchased metal racks and arches for warming plants so that they could bear fruit all year round, as well as film and film clips. The farmer is engaged in the installation of all necessary equipment and structures himself.
Emil has been cultivating strawberries for about 17 years.

This is a family business. At first, he grew it outdoors, then he was one of the first in the Crimea to implement the Hydroponics system.

“One of the advantages of growing berries using this technology is significantly reduced water consumption. Since the watering process is completely controlled, and water is supplied directly to the root of the plant. Even in conditions of great drought, there are no problems with watering. We take water from the Belbek River,” said Emil Bariev.

The essence of the “Hydroponics” technology is that oxygen, nutrition and other necessary components are supplied directly to the roots in the form of a solution.

Last year, a farmer decided to plant bushes in special bags with a nutrient substrate on 0.6 hectares in the Bakhchisarai district and place them above the ground, since the soil in this area is difficult and rocky. To do this, he made a metal structure for hydroponics and prepared seedlings of the Albion variety, which he planted on this square.
Since July of this year, the agricultural producer has already harvested about 5 tons of berries. The farmer sells his products in the markets of the Crimean capital, and in the future plans to enter the mainland market.
At the XXIV All-Russian Agro-industrial exhibition “Golden Autumn-2022” Emil presented his project “Cultivation of strawberries in an artificial environment” and received a silver medal for a unique agrostart.
Reference
In 2022, in the agricultural enterprises of the Republic of Crimea, garden strawberries are grown in the open ground on an area of 85 hectares, 410 tons have already been collected. 259 tons of berries from an area of 25 hectares were collected in the closed ground. The largest areas of garden strawberries are in the Bakhchisarai, Dzhankoy, Nizhnegorsky, Leninsky districts.
