The production volumes of protected ground vegetables in Russia are steadily growing. As of April 5, 345.5 thousand tons of products were grown in greenhouses, which is 11.1% more than a year earlier. Including the harvest of cucumbers amounted to 215.6 thousand tons (+4.1%), and tomatoes – 122.4 thousand tons (+14.4%).
The leaders among the regions in this area are the Lipetsk, Moscow, Kaluga, Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk regions, the Stavropol Territory, the republics of Tatarstan and Mordovia.
The high pace of development of the industry is associated, among other things, with the commissioning of high-tech greenhouse enterprises built in accordance with international standards. Modern complexes of the fifth generation are equipped with systems for maintaining a special microclimate and resource-saving technologies. Greenhouses use low-volume and hydroponic cultivation methods, which significantly increase crop yields and business profitability. Optimal production and technical characteristics allow growing high-quality and safe products.
Over the past five years, about 1.5 thousand hectares of greenhouse complexes have been commissioned and modernized in the country. Last year, their total area increased by 10% to 3.3 thousand hectares. In general, there are more than 400 farms in the country now. Over 50 more facilities with a total area of 450 hectares and a production volume of about 300 thousand tons are under construction.
