The greenhouse industry, valued at over $50 billion globally, is witnessing a paradigm shift with ClearVue Technologies’ latest innovation. By acquiring ROOTS Sustainable Agricultural Technologies’ proprietary systems, ClearVue is creating an integrated agricultural solution that optimizes energy use and crop productivity.

At the heart of this development is ClearVue’s solar glazing technology, which has already shown significant results. In trials at Murdoch University, ClearVue’s glass demonstrated yield improvements of up to 170% in crops like snow peas, capsicum, and Roma tomatoes compared to conventional greenhouse glass.

ROOTS’ Breakthrough Agricultural Innovations

ROOTS’ technology brings two award-winning solutions to the table:

  1. Root Zone Temperature Optimization (RZTO):
This system autonomously warms or cools plant roots to maintain optimal growing conditions, regardless of external temperatures. By combining this technology with ClearVue’s solar energy, the system ensures crop resilience in extreme climates, enhancing yields and quality.
  2. Irrigation by Condensation (IBC):
This unique system extracts water from atmospheric humidity, providing a sustainable irrigation solution, particularly in arid regions. Paired with ClearVue’s solar power, the IBC system can operate autonomously, further reducing greenhouse energy demands.

The Synergy of Solar Glass and Ag-Tech

ClearVue’s photovoltaic-integrated glazing units (PV-IGUs) are designed to harness solar energy to power essential greenhouse operations such as irrigation pumps, lighting, and monitoring systems. When combined with ROOTS’ technologies, these systems not only improve crop productivity but also reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural operations.

Key Results from Trials:

  • Yield increases ranged from 16% to 93% for spinach, bok choy, and beans.
  • Advanced trials recorded 52% to 170% increases in snow peas, capsicum, and tomatoes.

These results highlight the transformative potential of this integrated approach in achieving sustainable, high-yield farming.

Global Implications for Food Security

ClearVue’s advancements come at a critical time when food security is a pressing concern worldwide. With geopolitical instability and climate change threatening agricultural productivity, the demand for resilient, sustainable farming systems has never been higher.

ROOTS’ established presence in markets like the United States, UAE, Spain, and China provides ClearVue with a solid foundation to expand its greenhouse solutions globally. By leveraging these technologies, ClearVue aims to address challenges in water scarcity, energy inefficiency, and fluctuating crop yields, particularly in regions prone to extreme weather.

The integration of ClearVue’s solar glass with ROOTS’ agricultural technologies marks a significant leap in sustainable greenhouse farming. By optimizing root zone temperatures and introducing innovative water use methods, this partnership not only enhances crop productivity but also aligns with the global vision for net-zero agriculture. ClearVue’s bold step into ag-tech positions it as a leader in addressing critical food security challenges, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
