It is believed that summer residents and gardeners finish the summer season on the Cover. The harvest has already been harvested, processed and is waiting in the cellars for its invitation to the table. But Tambov farmers, even out of season, promise to feed the inhabitants of the region with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes.

It’s always summer in the greenhouse near Tambov, and it smells like July flowering beds.

Sergey Sukhov, Managing Director of Department No. 3 of Teplichnoye JSC: “We are now in a greenhouse with a cucumber. This cucumber was planted in September. Starting today, we start packing here. We have a standard cucumber. The difference between the standard and the non-standard: the standard should be the size, weight of the diameter.”

Today, the total area of the closed ground is 16 hectares. Greenhouse plants, including cucumbers, are very whimsical. In order to get high yields, vegetable growers have to supply the missing daylight, nutrients, carbon dioxide to start photosynthesis, and heat the premises.

Sergey Sukhov, Managing Director of the department No. 3 of JSC Teplichnoye: “Modern technologies allow us to increase the area using additional lighting, increase their taste qualities, harvest more and, accordingly, feed our population.”

The company’s products are in great demand among consumers. Although skeptics often question the usefulness of greenhouse vegetables, blaming them for the high content of chemistry.

Sergey Sukhov, Managing Department No. 3 of JSC Teplichnoye: “Even if cucumbers are grown on the ground, in any case, the plant needs batteries. Here we simply replace the earth with mineral wool and, accordingly, we dose them with those elements that are necessary for our plants. We have an agrochemical laboratory that conducts analysis and, accordingly, they do not have enough, we make up for it. But this is in those norms that are useful for plants.”

Biological methods are used here to fight diseases, and this significantly reduces the use of chemistry. Hybrids of domestic breeding are self-pollinated. Regardless of the “mood” of insects, cucumber plants give a high yield.

Using new technologies, it is possible to obtain more than 70 kilograms of cucumbers per square meter. This is a high indicator for greenhouse farms in our country. And here the tomatoes are harvested for the seventh month.

Konstantin Chupkin, Deputy Director of Production at AKO Teplichnoye: “We planted a tomato hybrid in this greenhouse in February. The collection began from April 1 to the present day. We plan to hold it until December 1. The tomato is medium—fruited, 120 – 160 grams, Carpal, the presentation is excellent. Medium maturity is selected, which is required by the market.”

There are many components of a good harvest: plant variety, nutrient medium conditions. Assistants are also needed. Bumblebees help to grow delicious tomatoes. Thanks to their efforts, the fruits grow with good marketable properties. It is believed that bumblebees are not as aggressive as bees, so they are gladly invited to work. The main task is to grow fruits that will not differ much from garden fruits and are able to compete with them even in summer.

Konstantin Chupkin, Deputy Director for Production of Teplichnoye JSC: “Greenhouse tomatoes are sold, only at a lower price, because there are a number of buyers who need medium-fruited tomatoes. In the summer, the tomato is tastier and there is a lot of it, nevertheless we compete and ship. We work with chain stores that deliver to different regions of Russia.”

Greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes of our local producer have been repeatedly awarded with diplomas and medals as the best vegetable products of protected soil. And the demand for it is great not only in its own area. Vegetables are readily bought in the capital and other regions.
