The collection of greenhouse vegetables in the Russian Federation by the end of this year will exceed 1.516 million tons, the vice-president of the association “Greenhouses of Russia” Andrey Medvedev told Interfax.

“There will be an increase (in production). In 2022, another record is planned – 1.516 million tons of vegetables in greenhouses,” Medvedev said on the sidelines of the international forum “Fruits and Vegetables – 2022” in Sochi. According to him, in 2021, the harvest of greenhouse vegetables amounted to 1.421 million tons. Thus, the indicator will grow by almost 7%. Among the largest Russian regions for growing vegetables in greenhouses are the Lipetsk, Moscow regions, as well as the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories.

Thus, in the Lipetsk region, according to the results of this year, production is projected to grow by 5.7% by 2021 – up to 175 thousand tons, in the Moscow region – by 23%, up to 128.3 thousand tons, in the Stavropol region – by a third, up to 102 thousand tons.

Medvedev stressed that cucumbers and tomatoes occupy the largest volume of vegetable production in greenhouses. The production volumes of pepper and other crops are insignificant.
Greenhouse areas in Russia at the end of 2021 exceeded 1.83 thousand hectares.
