Orbita-Agro LLC, the largest greenhouse vegetable producer in the region, plans to almost double its capacity. This was announced by the director of the company Shaig Mammadov.
“There are plans to expand, bring the total area of the greenhouse complex to twenty hectares. We have a great desire, financial capabilities and, most importantly, support at the regional and federal levels, Shaig Mammadov said. – We have already prepared a place and started building a seedling section so that we can provide ourselves with seedlings all year round, that is, to make a closed cycle. We went to this step by step and came to the conclusion that we must be 100% provided with our seedlings. In the future, we have plans to build a new phase of the greenhouse complex with an area of 6 hectares. Thus, we will bring the total area to 20 hectares.”
Governor Anton Alikhanov has already announced his support for the new project.
With the growth of production capacity, the company intends to expand its product line. Now Guards Greenhouses grow three types of cucumbers, six varieties of tomatoes, one variety of eggplant, two varieties of pepper, green crops and strawberries. The plans, in particular, to expand the varietal composition of cucumbers and tomatoes.
The first greenhouse complex for year-round growing vegetables of Orbita-Agro LLC was opened in the Gvardeisky municipal district in 2014. This was followed by the implementation of projects for the cultivation of strawberries on an industrial scale in a greenhouse, a seedling department and the second phase of the greenhouse complex.
Last week, the official opening of the third stage of the greenhouse complex took place. According to the forecast, the launch of this new production site in 2022 will provide an additional gross harvest of greenhouse vegetables in the amount of 2.8 thousand tons. The increase in production compared to the level of 2021 will be 40%.
In total, this year the agricultural company plans to grow 7.3 thousand tons of products: 2.8 thousand tons of tomatoes, more than 3.5 thousand tons of cucumbers, 500 tons of eggplant and pepper each.
“This volume will cover forty percent of the needs of the Kaliningrad region in vegetables: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants,” Shaig Mammadov specified.
According to him, the enterprise is provided with fertilizers and seeds. Fertilizers are used in Russia, there are reserves, seeds are provided for the next two years thanks to the provision of a preferential loan.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kaliningrad Region, in 2021, farms of all categories harvested 68 thousand tons of open and protected ground vegetables, which is 3% more than a year earlier.
