Germinarte, a trailblazer in the edible flowers and sprouts sector, has marked its 15-year journey by transforming Spain’s culinary landscape. Founded by Jorge and his brother, the company initially ventured into this niche market to fill a void in local supply chains dominated by Dutch and French imports. Their commitment to quality and innovation has not only captivated Michelin-starred chefs across Spain but also positioned Germinarte as a key player in Europe’s gastronomic revolution.
From humble beginnings in their family garden—once filled with orange trees—Germinarte has grown exponentially. “After trials and perseverance, we achieved a product of exceptional quality,” recalls Jorge. The initial success in Valencia paved the way for expansion into Alicante and eventually major Spanish cities, garnering acclaim from renowned chefs.
However, Germinarte’s pivotal moment arrived with a strategic partnership with Makro, propelling them into national prominence. “Collaborating with Makro allowed us to scale operations and enhance our product line,” explains Jorge. The introduction of microgreens, seaweeds, and over 100 spices complemented their signature edible flowers and sprouts, diversifying their offerings.
Despite domestic success, the challenge of exporting delicate products loomed large due to their short shelf life. “Edible flowers and sprouts typically last about 10 days,” notes Jorge, underscoring the barrier to international markets. In response, Germinarte unveiled a groundbreaking solution at Fruit Logistica—a line of live sprouts designed to remain fresh for up to a month. “This innovation not only extends shelf life but also opens new avenues for European exports,” Jorge emphasizes.
The live sprouts are packaged in convenient lots of 4 trays, catering to both large-scale restaurants and boutique eateries. Their debut at Fruit Logistica generated substantial interest, affirming their potential in the global culinary arena. “Our goal is to replicate our success across Europe,” Jorge declares confidently.
Germinarte’s commitment to sustainability is integral to its mission. By reducing food waste and carbon footprints through innovative farming practices, the company exemplifies eco-friendly agriculture. “We believe in sustainable growth that benefits both consumers and the environment,” Jorge affirms.
Looking ahead, Germinarte aims to solidify its footprint across Europe, building on its legacy of quality, innovation, and sustainability. “We envision a future where every European table enjoys the freshness and flavor of our products,” Jorge concludes.
