At the site of the liquidated municipal landfill in Chelyabinsk, Russia’s only experimental greenhouse of the fourth generation operates, in which light and heat are provided by landfill gas. The 720 square meter complex consists of two zones: industrial and economic. In the first one, over 25 thousand units of plants can be grown simultaneously. For example, today seedlings of shrubs and trees of carnation, Siberian apple, mountain pine, prickly spruce, spirea, pemphigus, almond are placed on 12 shelves in five tiers. Currently, a nursery with an area of 5.42 hectares is being created in the adjacent territory. Shrubs and trees will be transplanted here from the greenhouse to grow to the required standards. The resulting plants are planned to be used, among other things, for landscaping streets in populated areas of the region.
