Government officials convened in Kayseri, Türkiye, to introduce the Geothermal Source Specialized Greenhouse Organized Industrial Zone Based on Agriculture (TDIOSB) project, aimed at enhancing food security and economic growth in the region. Key figures present included Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkiliç and Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Mehmet Özhasek, who outlined the project’s objectives and strategic importance.
Minister Özhasek underscored the project’s innovative approach, highlighting the adoption of soilless agriculture over an expansive area of approximately 1.25 million square meters in Kayseri. The initiative, supported by a 185 million TL grant for infrastructure development from the Ministry, signifies a significant leap towards sustainable agricultural practices in Türkiye.
Established in early 2023, the Geothermal TDIOSB project in Kayseri operates under the coordination of the Kayseri Governorship Investment Monitoring and Coordination Presidency, alongside key stakeholders such as the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, Kocasinan Municipality, Kayseri Chamber of Industry, Kayseri Chamber of Commerce, and Kayseri Commodity Exchange.
Minister Özhasek emphasized, “Kayseri will become a hub for both production and distribution of fruits and vegetables, not only meeting local demand but also supplying neighboring provinces and international markets.” He projected an annual increase in fruit and vegetable production to 35,000 tons, significantly reducing reliance on external suppliers and transportation costs.
Economic projections suggest that the Geothermal TDIOSB will inject approximately 1 billion TL into Kayseri’s economy annually and create employment opportunities for 1,500 individuals, with a notable focus on female employment. Özhasek highlighted the economic benefits, stating, “This project will lower fruit and vegetable prices in Kayseri by reducing transport costs previously incurred from suppliers in places like Adana and Antalya.”
The introduction meeting witnessed the participation of key officials including Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek, AK Party Kayseri Deputies, municipal leaders, and representatives from business chambers, all expressing optimism about the project’s transformative impact on Kayseri’s agricultural and economic landscape.
