Alarko, a prominent Turkish conglomerate, has announced a substantial investment of $150 million for the construction of a 200-hectare greenhouse park in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. The construction and assembly work is already underway, with the project expected to be operational by 2026, according to Kazakh Invest.
Upon completion, the greenhouse complex will boast a production capacity of 50,000 tons of tomatoes annually, creating 1,750 new jobs. This ambitious project underscores Alarko’s commitment to leveraging Kazakhstan’s vast agricultural potential and robust export markets to enhance the region’s agricultural development.
“Alarko has been operating in Kazakhstan for the past 32 years. Kazakhstan has everything necessary – massive territory and available export markets – to boost the development of the agricultural sector. We see what the country has done to protect investors. We have strong faith in the country and have already invested about $700 million in various projects throughout Kazakhstan,” said Abbas Şahin, Vice President of Alarko.
In 2023, Alarko actively searched for suitable land in Taraz, Shymkent, and the Turkestan region following a memorandum of understanding signed with the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan. Although agriculture and the food industry represent new ventures for Alarko, the company is dedicated to growing food using greenhouses, organic and mineral fertilizers, processing and selling products, and agricultural technologies. Over the past 33 years, Turkish investments in Kazakhstan have totaled $2.8 billion across more than 70 projects.
This project not only highlights Alarko’s strategic vision but also presents an attractive opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors interested in the agricultural sector. The focus on sustainable and eco-friendly farming methods aligns with the growing global demand for responsible agriculture and food production.
