The buffer strips will also be used for growing in pots and containers, for growing trees, perennials and summer flowers. This is despite the fact that these crops are not mentioned in the seventh action program of the Nitrates Directive.
The LTO Department is awaiting further information from the Department of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality on the specific application of buffer strips in pot and container growing. In any case, the existing requirements apply:
– Prevention of nutrient leaching: by recycling or by using slow release fertilizers (in the case of a permeable growing floor);
– prevention of the release of plant protection products: by applying measures to reduce the introduction and recirculation and / or prevent the release of water with residues of plant protection products.
