Irkutsk, Russia – “Gorzelenhoz,” the municipal enterprise responsible for floral cultivation, has embarked on a significant expansion project aimed at revitalizing its greenhouse infrastructure. With the installation of three new greenhouses, two of which are already operational, and plans to replace seven aging structures with six larger ones, the enterprise is poised to revolutionize its production capabilities.
The newly acquired greenhouses, boasting dimensions of 9.6 meters and 12 meters in width and all 34 meters in length, feature advanced heating technology. Double-layered thick film walls equipped with fans ensure consistent warmth throughout the harsh Siberian winters, enabling the cultivation of tulip bulbs as early as December-January. This strategic move not only anticipates increased flower yields but also promises a diverse range of blooms such as chrysanthemums and roses for the forthcoming spring season.
Director Victoria Stets of “Gorzelenhoz” underscores the enterprise’s commitment to modernization, citing a phased approach to replacing outdated facilities since 2021. This systematic upgrade not only enhances floral production for city flowerbeds but also anticipates reductions in operational costs and labor requirements associated with greenhouse maintenance.
Mayor Ruslan Bolotov reaffirms the city’s support for this initiative, recognizing the pivotal role of “Gorzelenhoz” in enriching Irkutsk’s urban landscape with vibrant floral displays. This year alone, the enterprise achieved record-breaking outputs, including 600,000 tulips by International Women’s Day and extensive plantings of roses and annual flowers across city parks and squares during the summer season.
