The Novy Put company, which plans to build a greenhouse for growing tulips in the Toguchinsky district of the Novosibirsk region, will build a complex for growing potato seeds, the Investment Development Agency of the region reports.
Under the conditions of anti-Russian sanctions, the resident decided to focus on growing planting material. First of all, tulip bulbs, as well as elite potatoes. Technologies, by the way, are similar. There are practically no other such manufacturers in Siberia. And the need for bulbs is huge.
Initially, the project called for 1 million cut tulips to be grown by March 8th. At other times, the greenhouse was planned to be used for growing seedlings and vegetables.
“Just imagine how much seed was imported from Holland. Now supplies are very limited. We have already tried to grow bulbs for ourselves, so we have the competence. Initially, we will continue to grow bulbs for our needs, but in large volumes, and then scale up the process. In addition, we will be engaged in the cultivation of planting material for elite potatoes,” Viktor Shunkov said.
We have seen that the technology for growing elite potato tubers involves growing the first generation in a greenhouse. Then the seedlings are planted in the ground, and after another year, elite tubers are obtained.
The company expects to start growing potatoes at the end of May. In 2024, the company expects to produce 500 kilograms of seed potatoes.
For tulip bulbs, the plan is about 1 million per year. The resident will begin construction of a large greenhouse with an area of 3.5 thousand square meters at TASED in 2022. So far, production is located on a small area in the Toguchinsky district.
