As the greenhouse vegetable season draws to a close, Atkarsk’s greenhouse farmers reflect on their successes and challenges while planning for the future. Reporters from “Atkarsk Gazeta” visited the Petrovo village greenhouse complex to gather insights into the season’s outcomes and future prospects.
Despite the season’s end, activity remains high at the Petrovo greenhouse complex. Workers are busy harvesting the last crops of greenhouse cucumbers and preparing new greenhouses for the next planting season.
“This season, we dedicated 1.5 hectares to cucumbers, cultivating 33,000 cucumber plants. We are delighted with this season’s results, achieving an average yield of 22 kilograms per square meter, which is a record for our greenhouse,” said Akop Miskaryan, the greenhouse complex manager, in an interview with “Atkarsk Gazeta.” The final harvest is expected around July 5th.
Alongside the ongoing harvest, the complex is expanding with the construction of new greenhouses. “We are expanding. In the new greenhouses, we plan to grow tomatoes, with a target of 50,000 plants,” Miskaryan shared.
The ambitious development plans for the greenhouse complex are coming to fruition. However, Miskaryan expressed one significant concern: a shortage of labor. The complex is in need of workers to support its growing operations.
“If you are interested in working in greenhouse conditions and want to avoid the cold and lack of sunlight in the fall and winter, come join us,” Miskaryan encouraged with a smile.
