The top ten Russian regions in the protected soil vegetable growing segment include the Lipetsk, Moscow, Volgograd, Kaluga, Novosibirsk Regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, the Chechen Republic, Karachay-Cherkessia and Bashkortostan. Due to the systematic state support, the greenhouse industry of the country has become a driver of growth in the level of vegetable consumption and the most important factor of import substitution. In 2022, the gross harvest of indoor vegetables in the organized sector amounted to 1.64 million tons. The dynamics of 2023 indicates that the industry will set a new record by the end of the year.
