Specialists of the Russian Quality System (Roskachestvo) found nitrates and banned pesticides in vegetables. The study involved products grown in 11 Russian greenhouses in seven regions of the country. These include cucumbers, tomatoes and greens. A serious excess of the permissible nitrate content was detected in gherkin cucumbers produced by LLC TD Moy Leto from the Kaluga region. The department’s specialists clarified that the norm was exceeded more than twice. The remaining vegetables contained a small amount of nitrates within acceptable values. Pesticides were also found in vegetables, and some samples contained several types of them at once.
