The Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Altai Territory and the Republic of Altai reminds gardeners of the possibility of selecting varieties and hybrids of vegetable plants for growing in greenhouses based on belonging to the light zone declared by the creators.
The principle of selection of greenhouse varieties according to the ripening period does not fully correspond to the goals of protected ground technology, since the gardener provides the need for heat, moisture and batteries. Only the availability of solar energy (radiation) limits the use of certain varieties.
Since the daily duration, spectral composition and intensity of solar radiation change depending on the geographic latitude of the area, the country’s territory is conditionally divided into 7 light zones according to the amount of solar radiation influx in the most critical months for greenhouse production – December and January.
The territory of the Altai Territory and the Republic of Altai is assigned to the fourth light zone, as, for example, the traditionally considered “sunny” Astrakhan, Volgograd regions and the Republic of Kalmykia, varieties recommended for cultivation from the first to the fourth zones are suitable for growing in greenhouses.
The function of grouping varieties according to characteristics, available on the website of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Gossortkomissiya”, will facilitate the selection of a variety, suitability for growing conditions is placed in column 6. Varieties created for cultivation in greenhouses are assigned the following codes: zg (for growing in protected ground), zs (for growing both in protected ground and in horticultural), sz (both for horticultural cultivation and for protected ground). By clicking on the link of the selected variety, you can familiarize yourself with the full characteristics of the variety.
