Entrepreneurs, investors, and advocates for sustainable agricultural practices have a significant new development to watch in Spain. J. Huete Greenhouses has commenced the construction of a groundbreaking 15-hectare Gothic greenhouse complex in the Region of Murcia. Designed for high-quality tomato production using advanced hydroponic techniques, this project is set to become a reference point for the Spanish agricultural sector.
A Collaborative Vision for Sustainable Agriculture
The 15-hectare complex, developed in partnership between J. Huete Greenhouses and the agricultural company Bonnysa, is expected to be fully operational by the autumn of 2024. This state-of-the-art facility will feature a 6-meter gutter height, reaching up to 8.80 meters at the raised ridge. The greenhouses will be equipped with advanced overhead butterfly and perimeter ventilation systems, ensuring optimal growing conditions.
Key features of the project include:
- Plastic Coating and UV Protection: Certain areas will be fitted with UV-protected cellular plates.
- Motorized Rolling Doors: Enhancing operational efficiency and environmental control.
- Energy-Saving Screens and Climate Control: Implementing measures to reduce energy consumption and maintain ideal climate conditions.
- Advanced Electrical Systems: Comprehensive electrical infrastructure to support the complex’s operations.
- Lacquered Gutters and Ventilation: White-lacquered gutters on Magnelis coating to improve luminosity and prevent oxidation, and similarly treated arches and arms to maintain appropriate temperatures and enhance durability.
Hydroponic Innovation for Quality and Efficiency
A standout feature of this project is the hydroponic cultivation system, which includes hanging gutters designed to collect drainage. This system not only conserves water and fertilizers but also ensures the production of healthy, high-quality tomatoes. The integration of such advanced hydroponic techniques underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
Global Expansion and Expertise
While this ambitious project unfolds in Spain, J. Huete Greenhouses continues to expand its footprint globally. The company is currently involved in multiple international projects:
- Mexico: Building greenhouses for hydroponic strawberry production.
- Colombia: Developing a semi-enclosed plastic greenhouse.
- Australia: Constructing two greenhouses for berry production.
Recently, J. Huete Greenhouses has also completed several notable projects, including:
- Seed research greenhouses in South America.
- Remodeling of eight hectares of glass greenhouses.
- New research greenhouses in Spain.
- A highly technical greenhouse in Portugal for medicinal cannabis production.
