Biobest, ecoation and Bogaerts have unveiled OTTO, the world’s first autonomous crop exploration and forecasting robot for greenhouses.
Autonomous OTTO robot is equipped with ecoation 360 “Virtual Walk” camera, a versatile object detection model, 3D climate and light measurement per square meter, and a patented multi-modal “Plant Health Sensor”, which can detect various plant health problems in the early stages and inform manufacturers for further study. The robot can autonomously move around the greenhouse and work both day and night.

OTTO is part of a suite of offerings that provide stand-alone “Find & Fix” solutions for greenhouses. Bogaerts has previously introduced robots with ultraviolet treatment to fight disease. The partnership will soon introduce a solution for spot sprayers and application robots (T-Bot) that will work in a single ecosystem of joint technologies. This ecosystem includes mobile platforms, trap scanning technology, IPM and yield forecasting solutions, greenhouse drones and robots for other labor-intensive tasks such as harvesting and leaf removal. The ecosystem is designed in such a way that growers can easily migrate all existing historical data they have collected manually or through other platforms to a new ecosystem without missing valuable insights and gain control of all artificial intelligence and robotics solutions in the greenhouse in one place.
The OTTO robot is now being actively tested at the Canadian Greenhouse Technology Center and Academy (HORTECA) and will be available to selected greenhouses first in Canada and Europe, and then around the world.
