Many of us grow a standard sowing set in our gardens: potatoes, zucchini, carrots, onions, herbs, beets, radishes, cucumbers and tomatoes. But some Vinogradovans have been experimenting with growing various fruits or berries for a long time. And often such attempts are very successful.
Every year on August 3, International Watermelon Day is celebrated. Therefore, we asked ourselves the question: how many people in our area grow tasty and juicy berries? It turns out yes.
Alena Gagarina is waiting for the watermelon to grow up
For example, Nadezhda Gagarina from Zaostrovye planted a watermelon in a greenhouse for the first time. As she herself admitted, she shoved him, jokingly. A neighbor, Galina Gagarina, gave seedlings, so she planted him in a greenhouse with tomatoes.
Watermelon does not require special care. “Yes, and I have no time to lisp with him,” Nadezhda admits. “But still, the whole family is waiting for when and, most importantly, what will grow out of our experiment.”
But among our old acquaintances, the Shchekoldins from Pyanda, the watermelon has taken root, so to speak. Not the first year they have been growing a wonderful dessert. We found an approach to the southern berry. And he, a watermelon, feels at ease in the garden of hospitable hosts. It matures and grows in a big way.
Tatyana Kholmova from Bereznik (in the main photo) has been friends with watermelons for three years now. Buys seeds and prepares for the season even in winter. Five bushes have been planted this year. In the greenhouse, watermelons happily coexist with cucumbers and tomatoes. Two fruits are already big, and the rest are smaller. But, as Tatyana says, they still have time – they will grow up. In past years, the largest watermelon has grown more than 3 kg. We also asked about the taste of watermelons grown in the north.
