Ripe and juicy. Strawberries without land and sunlight began to be grown in a greenhouse complex next to Minusinsk. Agronomists are ready to share the first results of the experiment. And residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory will be able to enjoy berries from Abakan all year round.
I take one berry, I look at the other. And most importantly, easy to assemble. Here at the berry farm, strawberries are grown in air beds, right at eye level, without sunlight or soil. Under lamps and in mineral wool. All plant nutrients are obtained from an aqueous solution enriched with oxygen. For the greenhouse complex, this is an experiment.
We select the level of nutrition, we select the level of illumination, the temperature regime, because not all greenhouse complexes have this. And a lot of things that we just experience for ourselves, because there is simply no data for indoor cultivation.
Yulia Zamyatina, chief agronomist of the greenhouse complex
So far, there are a little more than a thousand strawberry roots in the beds. Variety Dutch, although capricious, the first results are already impressive.
The weight of one berry reaches from 30 to 40 grams, now let’s try to pick it. Ripe, fragrant and very very juicy, just like in the summer from the garden.
Plants are not pollinated by bees, but by ordinary fans. Uniform air currents carry pollen from one flower to another. Agronomists say that the first experience is successful, the bunches are simply bursting from the number of berries and flowers.
Three times a day, in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening, sometimes, and five times a day, they came to see how quickly we would begin to receive a crop and how much we would harvest.
The fragrant farm plans to harvest every two weeks, and almost all year round. Now the quantities are small. If demand grows, then the number of beds here is going to be increased. In addition to the berry farm, tomatoes ripen in the greenhouse next door. The tomato jungle is impressive, with several thousand roots and a hundred winged workers. Plants are pollinated not by bees, but by bumblebees. Agronomists say 250 kilograms of vegetables a week is the result of buzzing assistants.
Previously, they bought from Israel, they were foreigners with us, now they are Russians with us. It is in the Moscow region that they are grown in laboratory conditions, and they are sent to us already in a box, in their houses.
Andrey Polishchuk, director of the greenhouse complex
Vegetables are grown here all year round. Bypassing intermediaries, fresh vegetables and berries are directly delivered to customers in Krasnoyarsk, Minusinsk, Ermakovskoye and Kuragino. And if the strawberry experiment is successful, residents of Krasnoyarsk will also be able to taste the berry from Abakan.
