The first harvest of cucumbers and tomatoes this year in the greenhouse complex “Belogorsky” in the Crimea amounted to a little more than 460 tons. This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic.
“The first harvest this year was 330 tons of cucumbers and about 126 tons of tomatoes. Last year, greenhouse farms of the republic collected about 15 thousand tons of tomatoes and cucumbers in the closed ground. In 2022, slightly more than 40 enterprises grew vegetables in greenhouses,” the ministry said in a statement.
Thanks to a special lighting system – “additional lighting”, which allows products to ripen almost all year round, plants begin to bear fruit in 95 days from the moment of sowing seeds and grow to a height of up to 7 meters. Tomatoes and cucumbers are grown hydroponically in a special substrate. Thanks to this newest direction of greenhouse production, it is possible to obtain high yields of vegetables, the Ministry of Agriculture noted. Drip irrigation of plants with repeated use of nutrient solution drainage, the department added.
Support for farmers
For several years in a row, the greenhouse plant has been a participant in state support programs. For example, thanks to subsidies in 2020 and 2021, energy costs for the production of protected soil vegetables were reimbursed. Last year, the company received state support for a new event – “additional lighting” of plants.
Farmers of the Crimea are trying to provide comprehensive support. In particular, last year rice farmers were compensated up to 35% of the cost of seeds. In addition, according to the Rosagroleasing program, rice farmers are helped to update the tractor fleet, and compensation for the restoration of the reclamation system is up to 50% of the total cost.
Young specialists receive financial “lifting” – 200 thousand rubles for obtaining secondary specialized education and 250 thousand for higher education. In addition, large Crimean agricultural enterprises motivate young people by providing housing, and the republic is trying to provide comfortable living conditions in rural areas.
