In the latest reports, Deputy Chairman of the regional government, Minister of Agriculture Roman Kovalsky reported that the harvest of greenhouse vegetables in the Volga District reached an impressive 11,807 tons. This includes 11,211 tons of cucumbers, 491 tons of tomatoes and 105 tons of other vegetables, highlighting the region’s significant contribution to Russia’s agricultural landscape.
In addition, according to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Saratov region continues to strengthen its position in the top ten regions of Russia for the production of greenhouse vegetables, along with such key players as the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, as well as other regions such as Lipetsk, Moscow, Volgograd, Kaluga, Tyumen, Belgorod and Tambov.
In terms of municipal districts, the absolute leader is the Gagarinsky district, where an impressive harvest of greenhouse vegetables was collected – 8948 tons. Next come Balakovsky (1459 tons), Tatishchevsky (1300 tons), as well as Atkarsky (76 tons) and Volsky (24 tons) districts.
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasizes that the development of greenhouse vegetable growing in the region is facilitated by a comprehensive set of government support measures and the implementation of large-scale investment projects. It should be noted that the agricultural enterprise “Sovkhoz Vesna” is currently implementing an investment project aimed at modernizing and reconstructing greenhouses equipped with additional lighting systems.
The Volga District’s success in greenhouse vegetable production underscores the region’s commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainable development. Thanks to strategic investments and strong government support, the area continues to prosper, making a significant contribution to Russia’s agricultural sector and providing an abundant supply of fresh produce to domestic and international markets.
