The article highlights the significant growth in greenhouse vegetable production in the Moscow region, driven by key players such as Agrokultura Group in Kashira. Detailed data and insight into industry developments highlight the region’s commitment to strengthening food security.
Review of greenhouse vegetable growing in the Moscow region
Greenhouse farming has become a vital component of agricultural production in the Moscow region, contributing to a significant increase in vegetable production. At the end of April 2024, the total harvest of greenhouse vegetables in the region amounted to 50.6 thousand tons, which is 8% more than in the previous year. This growth is due to the efforts of approximately 15 winter and spring greenhouse complexes scattered throughout the region.
These complexes grow a wide range of vegetables, including cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, cauliflower, lettuce and radishes. Let us note that this year more than 33 thousand tons of cucumbers and more than 15 thousand tons of tomatoes have already been harvested. Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region, Minister of Agriculture and Food Vladislav Murashov emphasized that expanding greenhouse production capacity is a strategic step to strengthen the region’s food security.
Leading Producers and Their Contributions
Among the leaders in achieving such impressive results is the Kashira Agricultural Group with a record harvest of 29,377 tons. This achievement strengthens its position as a leader in greenhouse vegetable production in the region. Other well-known producers include “Lukhovitskie Vegetables” from Lukhovitsy with a production volume of 12,028 tons and “Central Market” from Elektrostal with a production volume of 5,200 tons.
The strategic focus on increasing production capacity is reflected in the ongoing investment and expansion of these complexes. This approach not only meets the growing demand for fresh vegetables, but also supports the regional goal of achieving greater self-sufficiency in food production.
Record harvests in Kashira and the overall increase in greenhouse vegetable production in the Moscow region reflect a successful strategic approach to agricultural development. Increasing production capacity and focusing on growing a variety of vegetables are key factors contributing to this success. As the region continues to invest and expand its greenhouse facilities, it is well positioned to address future food security challenges and maintain its leadership in greenhouse vegetable production.
