From Thiès, Senegal, a beacon of innovation shines forth in the realm of protected horticulture. Module 6 of the Tailor Made Training program, spearheaded by Delphy International, underscores the pivotal role of adapted agricultural practices in bolstering food security across Senegal and West Africa.

Throughout the training week, participants were immersed in a hands-on learning experience at the ENSA-Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Agronomie. The existing low-tech greenhouse served as a practical demonstration site, enabling participants to apply theoretical principles in real-time. Notably, this module introduced participants to hydroponics, a cutting-edge technique poised to revolutionize agricultural practices in the region, with substrate provided by Cocogreen.

A highlight of the training was a visit to Grand domaines Senegal, where participants gained firsthand insights into commercial greenhouse facilities. From bananas to cherry tomatoes, Grand domaines Senegal exemplifies integrated pest management strategies, importing natural enemies and bumblebees from Koppert Netherlands.

This immersive experience underscored the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving agricultural innovation. Participants witnessed firsthand the dedication to quality work and innovation within the private sector, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.

The Tailor Made Training program, part of the Orange Knowledge Program managed by Nuffic Global Development, represents a crucial step towards advancing agricultural practices in Senegal and beyond. As the training continues, participants will further hone their entrepreneurial skills, recognizing that technical knowledge must be complemented by effective marketing and sales strategies.
