After years of decline, the nursery has been restored and is now at the forefront of the city’s environmental transformation. Advanced greenhouse technology enables the large-scale cultivation of flowers and trees that will soon enhance the city’s parks, streets, and public spaces.
Modern Greenhouse Technology Ensures Healthy Growth
The nursery operates year-round thanks to automated climate control systems. Heating units maintain temperatures between 16–23°C, ensuring ideal conditions for plant growth. Ultraviolet lamps replace natural sunlight, and automated irrigation maintains optimal humidity levels. This controlled environment is crucial for delicate plants like begonias, which require constant temperature and moisture regulation.
The city is set to plant over 300,000 flowers, including petunias, silver cineraria, salvia, dahlias, and marigolds. These will be carefully transplanted into urban flower beds, significantly increasing green coverage.
Tree Planting for a Sustainable Future
Beyond flowers, the nursery is also preparing to plant 800 saplings, including cherry, linden, and a new variety of poplar that does not produce allergenic fluff. These fast-growing trees are ideal for urban settings, particularly in high-pollution areas. Unlike traditional poplars, which release airborne seeds that cause allergic reactions, this new variety will provide the same environmental benefits—air purification, shade, and aesthetic value—without the downsides.
A Strategic Approach to Urban Greening
Urban reforestation and flower planting are part of a broader environmental strategy in Nizhny Tagil. The local government has partnered with major industrial enterprises, including UVZ and NTMK, to support these efforts. Before the nursery’s revival, the city had to purchase saplings from external suppliers, often at high costs, with low survival rates. Now, with a self-sustaining local nursery, the city can efficiently expand green spaces while ensuring plant quality and adaptation to the local climate.
