More than 57 thousand tons of vegetables of the closed ground were grown by collectives of greenhouses of the Volgograd region this year, which is one thousand tons more than last year’s harvest.
The enterprises supplied more than 35 thousand tons of cucumbers and 21 thousand tons of tomatoes for processing and the consumer market. Volgograd consumers receive local eggplants, lettuce and greens in sufficient quantities.
Within eight years, the total area of greenhouses in the region increased from 48.1 to 119.6 hectares, and the volume of vegetable production in the closed ground reached 85 thousand tons. According to experts, the development of greenhouse vegetable growing is facilitated by comprehensive state support of the industry.
In the coming year, Volgograd farmers will be presented with new support measures within the framework of the project “Development of vegetable and potato growing”. We are talking about providing subsidies to cover the costs associated with the construction and modernization of vegetable storages, according to the regional administration.
