At the beginning of July, the streets and squares of Norilsk will be decorated with lemon, orange and red-orange marigolds, the flowers most resistant to capricious northern weather. In total, about 53 thousand flowers will be planted.
“Marigolds are able to recover, and this is especially important, because the sun is quite harsh here, a strong wind often blows, the air temperature sometimes changes dramatically,” explained Larisa Romanchenko, director of the Ecology Department.
The contractors started preparing the flowers in advance – it takes from 50 to 70 days to grow buds in greenhouses. By the end of June, the flowers reach the desired size.
They have already landed on Leninsky Prospekt, now the lawns are being prepared on Sevastopolskaya Street. The territory near the Ayka sports hall was planted by the participants of the eco-marathon “It started”, the figure skater Alexei Yagudin became the ambassador of this marathon this year.
The contractor will monitor the condition of the plantings and, if necessary, renew the flower beds until September. Norilsk residents and guests of the North were reminded at the mayor’s office that flowers should be treated with care.
