In the picturesque region of Hualien, the collaboration between Bingwei Energy and local farmers is pioneering a model of sustainable agriculture. Utilizing precast foundations and reinforced steel structures, these greenhouses stand as a testament to their resilience against frequent earthquakes. Farmers, equipped with the flexibility to build or lease these structures, are venturing into diverse cultivation practices. The initiative extends beyond individual efforts, fostering partnerships with government agencies, agricultural associations, and research institutes to promote organic farming zones and the development of unique agricultural products.
Bingwei Energy’s Vice General Manager, Hong Guo, emphasizes the strategic planning of cultivation zones within the Green Energy Agricultural Cooperative. Different areas are designated for varying sunlight exposure, enabling the cultivation of crops suited to specific light conditions. From papayas and fruit corn in fully sunlit zones to lettuce, passion fruit, strawberries, and turmeric in partially shaded areas, the initiative showcases a wide range of crops. This diversification extends to off-ground cultivation, featuring strawberries, and shaded zones for cultivating turmeric, contributing to the organic product market and encouraging community participation in greenhouse cultivation.
General Manager Cai Nianfang highlights the project’s compliance with agricultural development regulations and national energy policies. The Hualien Ji’an Greenhouse and Environmental Control Cultivation Facility, coupled with green energy components, serves as a small-scale demonstration site in Ji’an Township. The success of this endeavor aims to serve as a blueprint for other regions, with plans underway for similar green energy collaborations in Southern California, USA, in coordination with multiple city mayors.
The synergy between Bingwei Energy and local farmers in Hualien County exemplifies a sustainable approach to modern agriculture. The marriage of advanced greenhouse structures and renewable energy not only addresses the challenges posed by extreme climates but also sets the stage for a diversified, resilient, and eco-friendly future for agriculture. This initiative serves as a beacon for other regions globally to adopt innovative practices that prioritize both agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
