Farmers in the Novgorod region in 2021 had 20 hectares of greenhouses of all kinds. They harvested 2 thousand tons of vegetables: 66% of the harvest fell on cucumbers, 34% – on tomatoes. In the structure of all agricultural producers in the region, farmers grow 16% of vegetables and increase their share. It is reported by Novgorodstat. According to the agency, over the past seven years, the harvest of vegetables in greenhouses from farmers and individual entrepreneurs in the Novgorod region has grown 26 times. Along with traditionally grown cucumbers and tomatoes, they are engaged in the production of original seeds of mini-potato tubers. Healthy seed material is obtained by micropropagation in test tubes. This allows farmers to obtain high crop yields and reduce the cost of chemical methods of disease control.
