SP Soluciones Agricolas, a company from Huelva, and its partner Indesla have come together to solve one of the main problems that the cardboard packaging for berries have. “The need for the berries to be seen by consumers at the points of sale came into conflict with the sustainability of the tubs and their handling,” stated Jose Manuel Pecero, the commercial director of SP Soluciones Agrícolas.
The solution is combining a 100% biodegradable support, made of corrugated cardboard or paper, with a lid made out of R-PET, a plastic that has already been recycled and can be recycled again. The support is created by Strong Pack, SP Soluciones Agricolas cardboard and paper packaging division, while the R-PET lid is manufactured by Indesla.

“This collaboration will allow us to create sustainable packaging that will help reduce the time wasted handling it, which can be sold at competitive prices,” stated Pecero. Thus, the company is able to solve what berry producers consider are the two main drawbacks that sustainable packaging in the market has to date.
In the 2020/2021 campaign, SP Soluciones Agrícolas and Indesla will offer five different packagings, with capacities that range from 125 grams to 1 kilo, to package blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, stone fruits, tomatoes, or cherry tomatoes.
