During the summer months, more than 35 million annuals will decorate the flower beds in Moscow. They will be planted to replace flowering tulips and violas, according to the website of the Moscow Mayor.
“Specialists of the municipal economy complex have begun updating flower beds in courtyards, squares, parks, squares and embankments, along the main highways,” said Petr Biryukov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for housing and communal services and landscaping.
He added that petunias, begonias and cineraria will bloom in the flowerbeds.
To decorate the city for the summer season, over 150 varieties of plants were grown in the greenhouses of the State Budgetary Institution “Landscaping”. It will be possible to see more than 25 varieties of petunias and about the same number of begonias.
The total area of flowerbeds this year is 880 thousand square meters. The largest ones are located on Manezhnaya Square, in the park near the Bolshoi Theatre, Novy Arat and other places of mass recreation for Muscovites and guests of the megapolis.
