According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region, the Moscow region is one of the leading regions in the country in terms of greenhouse vegetable production. The top three leading regions are Lipetsk, Moscow, and Belgorod regions. In 2022, the Moscow region harvested almost 114,000 tons of winter greenhouse vegetables, with over 73,000 tons of cucumbers, 38,700 tons of tomatoes, and almost 2,000 tons of other crops. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Russia harvested a record 1.25 million tons of greenhouse vegetables in 2022, which is 7% higher than in 2021.
Currently, greenhouse farms in the Moscow region are developing successfully and expanding their areas. For example, in 2022, the third phase of the Luhovitsy vegetable complex was put into operation in the Luhovitsy city district. The complex is capable of producing up to 15,000 tons of cucumbers and more than 3,500 tons of tomatoes per year. The investments in the new phase amounted to about 4.8 billion rubles. Fresh vegetables will be supplied all year round to the Moscow region and neighboring regions.
The high production rates of greenhouse vegetables in the Moscow region and Russia as a whole can have a positive impact on the agricultural industry and the country’s economy as a whole. It is important for farmers, agronomists, agricultural engineers, farm owners, and scientists who work in agriculture to stay informed about the latest trends and developments in the industry.
