This year, a historical record for the production of greenhouse vegetables is expected in Russia. According to the forecast, farmers will harvest 1.5 million tons of cucumbers, tomatoes and green crops. To date, 1.43 million tons have already been grown in protected ground, which is 6.7% more than in the same period last year.
Including the harvest of cucumbers is 806.6 thousand tons (+5.9%), and tomatoes – 581 thousand tons (+5.6%). The leading regions in this segment are the Lipetsk, Moscow, Volgograd, Kaluga, Belgorod, Novosibirsk regions, the republics of Karachay-Cherkessia and Tatarstan, the Stavropol and Krasnodar regions.
A set of state support measures is aimed at the development of greenhouse vegetable growing. In particular, preferential investment loans and “stimulating” subsidies are provided for industry enterprises.
