In the face of ongoing challenges due to military actions, workers in Belgorod are finalizing repairs on a greenhouse facility that has suffered repeated damage from shelling. Mayor Valentin Demidov recently inspected the site to assess the quality of the restoration efforts. The reconstruction involved replacing nearly 900 square meters of glass, with side windows covering 250 square meters repaired by Belgorblagoustroystvo employees. Specialized contractors were engaged to address the unique structural aspects of the retractable roof. Currently, the thermal envelope is nearly restored, allowing the interior to reach the necessary temperatures for seedling preparation. The greenhouse spans a total area of 9,000 square meters. Mayor Demidov noted that despite significant damage, particularly from attacks in March, the facility is on track for the upcoming planting season. Under normal operations, the greenhouse can produce between 100,000 to 150,000 seedlings annually.
The Belgorod region has experienced multiple instances of infrastructure damage due to ongoing military activities. In the city of Shebekino, for example, artillery shelling has damaged residential buildings, shops, and greenhouses, leading to broken windows, damaged facades, and fires.
The broader conflict has had significant implications for agricultural infrastructure in the region. Damage to facilities like greenhouses not only disrupts local food production but also affects the livelihoods of those dependent on agriculture. The resilience demonstrated by the Belgorod community in restoring such facilities underscores the critical importance of maintaining agricultural operations amid adversity.
The ongoing restoration of Belgorod’s greenhouse facility exemplifies the resilience and determination of the local community to sustain agricultural productivity despite the challenges posed by conflict. Such efforts are vital for ensuring food security and supporting the regional economy during these tumultuous times.
