The United Arab Emirates (UAE) faces challenges such as high temperatures, limited arable land, and scarce water resources, making food production a demanding task. However, by developing new technologies, researchers can economically produce low-carbon food. Researchers at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi are actively exploring robotic solutions in conjunction with local companies. The application of artificial intelligence and robotics in indoor farming, including greenhouse and vertical farming, holds great promise for soil inspection, precise pesticide application, harvest collection, and sample selection. The utilization of robotics has the potential to transform agriculture into an efficient and profitable industry.

Afra Al Dhubi, Assistant Project Manager at the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, expressed her admiration for the close collaboration observed among various sectors in the Netherlands. Despite operating within the same agricultural domain, there is no negative competition between companies as they collectively work towards research advancements. Witnessing the seamless synergy among sectors during their visit has been an enlightening experience. Al Dhubi believes that this visit provides insights into projects that can be implemented prior to Cop28, focusing on swift achievements centered around food security, agriculture, and education.

The collaboration between the UAE and the Netherlands holds tremendous potential for revolutionizing the agricultural sector. By leveraging technological advancements and fostering interdisciplinary cooperation, both countries can address the challenges posed by their unique agricultural landscapes. The exchange of knowledge and expertise will enable the UAE to overcome limitations and create sustainable and profitable agricultural systems. Through joint initiatives and Cop28, the path towards a more secure and efficient future for global agriculture becomes increasingly promising.
