In a strategic move to fortify greenhouse vegetable production in Stavropol, the regional government has unveiled a novel form of support for horticulturists. Starting from 2024, agricultural producers engaged in protected ground cultivation will have access to regional grants provided in the form of subsidies specifically earmarked for the establishment of tunnel greenhouses. This initiative, as reported by the regional Ministry of Agriculture, involves allocating a substantial sum of 10 million rubles from the regional treasury.
The anticipated annual production volume of vegetables resulting from the construction of these greenhouse modules is expected to hover around 90 tons, promising a significant economic boon for the recipients, with an estimated annual income of approximately 5.5 million rubles. Noteworthy is Stavropol’s leading position in Russia for the production of greenhouse tomatoes and its fourth position in overall greenhouse vegetable production. The region has already witnessed a remarkable start to the year with 107.4 thousand tons of vegetables harvested from its greenhouses.
As we celebrate this stride towards agricultural innovation, it’s essential to acknowledge the broader context of Stavropol’s agricultural landscape. The region has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, continually contributing to the nation’s vegetable supply. In particular, the rise in cabbage imports by 59% in 2023 underscores the region’s commitment to meeting demands and maintaining a competitive edge in the agricultural sector.
Stavropol’s commitment to advancing its greenhouse agriculture is not only a testament to its agricultural prowess but also positions it as a trailblazer in adopting sustainable and innovative farming practices. The infusion of funds into tunnel greenhouse projects signals a promising future for the region’s vegetable production, showcasing the government’s dedication to supporting local farmers and ensuring food security.
