In recent years, large greenhouse units and complexes equipped with sorting and packaging facilities have emerged, enhancing the value chain for greenhouse products in Hamedan. This strategic move aims to streamline export processes, ensuring added value remains within the province.
In a recent development heralding a new era for greenhouse agriculture in Hamedan, the Agricultural Jihad Industries Manager, Hassan Mohammadi, unveiled plans for the establishment of a comprehensive production chain. This initiative seeks to address longstanding challenges in the export of greenhouse products by integrating sorting, packaging, and cold storage facilities within the province.
Mohammadi emphasized the significance of reducing reliance on intermediaries for export purposes, citing the limited value addition provided by such arrangements. Consequently, efforts have been underway to equip large greenhouse units and complexes with state-of-the-art sorting and packaging infrastructure over the past couple of years.
Furthermore, the implementation of cold storage facilities directly within greenhouse premises marks a pivotal step towards enhancing export capabilities. By obtaining the necessary permits and licenses for these facilities, Hamedan aims to facilitate direct exportation of its agricultural produce, thereby bypassing the need for external intermediaries.
The integration of environmental impact assessments into the licensing process underscores the province’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices. With three cold storage and sorting/packaging units already operational in the greenhouse products sector, Hamedan sets a precedent for efficient and environmentally conscious production.
Notably, ongoing construction projects, such as the 5,000-ton cold storage facility and the 10,000-ton sorting and packaging unit in the Khorijan greenhouse complex, signify significant progress towards bolstering the province’s export capabilities. With over 50% physical completion achieved, these facilities are poised to revolutionize the region’s agricultural landscape.
The establishment of a comprehensive production chain for greenhouse products in Hamedan marks a significant milestone in the region’s agricultural development. By nurturing a self-sustaining ecosystem that prioritizes value addition and sustainability, Hamedan paves the way for enhanced competitiveness and resilience in the global market.
