In a groundbreaking move, a local company has established Southeast Asia’s largest hydroponic glass greenhouse, set to provide the local market with a daily yield of four tons of fresh vegetables. The innovative Green Abundance Farm employs cutting-edge automation technologies, such as UV lights to facilitate photosynthesis during nighttime, accelerating the growth process and reducing the harvest cycle to just 28 days. The greenhouse’s water-efficient and space-saving features mark a significant leap forward in sustainable farming practices.
In a bold leap towards sustainable agriculture, the Green Abundance Farm has unveiled Southeast Asia’s most extensive hydroponic glass greenhouse, poised to supply the local market with an impressive four tons of fresh vegetables daily. Spanning two hectares in the Liangzhou region, this state-of-the-art greenhouse leverages full automation, incorporating UV light exposure to enable photosynthesis even during the night, effectively shortening the growth cycle to a mere 28 days.
According to Huang Weide, one of the greenhouse directors, the farm has significantly reduced the need for manual labor, cutting the workforce by threefold from the typical 80 employees required in traditional farms to just 20 to 25. The farm’s water efficiency is striking, boasting a 95% reduction due to the use of recycled water. Additionally, the utilization of vertical farming techniques allows for a 3-5 times increase in land productivity.
The variety of vegetables cultivated at the Green Abundance Farm includes local staples like Chinese cabbage alongside commonly used Western vegetables, catering to the demands of local hotels and restaurants. This new venture is poised to contribute to the national goal of providing 30% of the country’s nutritional needs by 2030.
The establishment of Southeast Asia’s largest hydroponic glass greenhouse marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of sustainable farming practices. Green Abundance Farm not only ensures a consistent and abundant supply of fresh vegetables but also demonstrates the potential for technology-driven solutions to address the challenges faced by traditional agriculture. With reduced manpower, water conservation, and increased land productivity, this innovative approach sets a precedent for the future of farming in the region.
