The Government has announced the launch of a new program aimed at supporting women farmers in Eastern Georgia.
The Village Development Agency will help residents of the municipalities of Marneuli and Lagodekhi with the construction of greenhouses, Novosti-Georgia reports.
Beneficiaries will be able to finance up to 90% of the cost of the work – up to 25 thousand lari in total (about $8,930). At the same time, greenhouses with an area of at least 200 square meters fall under the program.
Women aged 18-60 years who are owners or co-owners of land plots with an area of up to 5 thousand square meters will be able to become participants of the program.
Priority is given to the socially unprotected and women who raise minor children.
In addition to financial assistance, technical assistance will also be provided to the beneficiaries – a theoretical course on greenhouse management and care for specific crops, practical classes on specific crops will be held.
The total budget of the program is $300 thousand, of which $240 thousand is donor resources, and $60 thousand is the participation of the Rural Development Agency.
The pilot program was developed within the framework of the UN Women project “Economic Empowerment of Women in the South Caucasus”. It is funded by Switzerland and Austria.
