The newest and largest greenhouse complex for growing tomatoes in the Astrakhan region — “Cedar” — is preparing for the first harvest. The launch of the project has been postponed several times, but it has recently started its work. As Ruslan Pashayev, the Minister of Agriculture and Fishing Industry of the region, told at a press conference, the first Cedar harvest should be harvested in December – tomatoes in greenhouses are now ripening.
Initially, the Cedar complex, located in the Ikryaninsky district, was supposed to start work in 2020. However, then a pandemic intervened in these plans: due to restrictions, foreign equipment adjusters could not come to the region for commissioning. The sanctions of 2022, according to Pashayev, did not affect the plans for the commissioning of the complex, since the main foreign equipment was delivered before the aggravation of the geopolitical situation.
The complex occupies an area of 45.9 hectares. Greenhouses account for 10.5 hectares. When growing tomatoes, ActiveAir evaporative cooling technology is used, as well as SuprimAir technology, which will allow maintaining an optimal and constant microclimate in the greenhouse throughout the year. The average annual volume of cultivation, based on the previously announced data, is projected at 7.5 thousand tons. The commissioning of the Cedar complex will give the Astrakhan region about 200 new jobs.
