In Germany, vegetable greenhouses began to close due to a sharp rise in energy prices. This was reported on Sunday, November 6, by Bavarian radio BR24.
It is noted that local agronomists are forced to abandon the cultivation of vegetables, since in winter the process turns out to be very expensive. For example, Tanya and Andreas Evers said that now they cannot afford to maintain the necessary temperatures in the greenhouse, which are achieved with gas heating. The couple complained that they do not know how much it will cost them to grow vegetables, since the gas contract expires by the end of the year. However, the Evers are sure that everything will become more expensive, starting with fertilizers and seeds.
Agronomists also said that some customers have already begun to refuse unplanned purchases of cherry tomatoes. Because of this, the Evers had to replace the cultivation of tomatoes and cucumbers with lettuce. According to Andreas, he will not wait for support from the state, but will take matters into his own hands. The German admitted that he wants to purchase a thermal power plant that will run on LNG and generate heat and electricity.
