Bahtiyor Kosimov, a Tajik farmer who migrated to Russia, found success in Tambov region due to its conducive climate and fertile soil. His farm, thriving in two main directions—greenhouses yielding cucumbers and tomatoes, and open fields producing potatoes, beets, and pumpkins—reflects a commitment to diversified agriculture.
When delving into potato cultivation in open fields, Kosimov highlights his participation in the “AgroStartup” competition. In April 2022, securing a spot among the winners granted him a substantial grant of three million rubles. This financial boost enabled him to upgrade his equipment, acquiring a modern “Belarus” tractor and a “Gazelle” van. These investments proved instrumental in efficiently harvesting and transporting the produce in the first year.
Beyond personal accomplishments, Kosimov initiated a cooperative about a year ago, bringing together 13 small farms. Operating on principles of mutual assistance, the cooperative members collaborate on sowing, land processing, harvest, and storage. The produce, mainly sold at markets, has attracted both regular customers and opportunities for processing some of the goods.
Even with a large family, including seven children, Kosimov emphasizes the importance of instilling a strong work ethic in the younger generation. During school holidays, he involves his children in farm activities, aiming to nurture a sense of responsibility and hard work. Recognizing a gap in urban knowledge about agriculture, Kosimov expresses a desire to organize farm tours for schoolchildren, bridging the gap between city dwellers and the origins of their food.
Bahitoyr Kosimov’s journey from two greenhouses to a thriving agricultural enterprise in Tambov region serves as a testament to dedication, innovation, and collaboration in modern farming. His vision extends beyond personal success, aiming to educate and inspire future generations about the significance of agriculture in our lives.
