The scenic Baise River Valley, one of China’s top three natural greenhouses, is the epicenter of mango production. By the end of 2023, Baise boasted a staggering 1.37 million mu mango plantations, producing 1.25 million tons of mangoes annually and generating a fresh fruit production of 6 billion yuan. The entire value chain of the Guangxi-Gushi mango industry cluster reaches an impressive 19.2 billion yuan.
The Bayase Mango Industry Development Regulations, a pioneering local legislation, addresses critical aspects ranging from cultivation management, processing and distribution to standardization, branding and industry support services. Designed to strengthen the protection of genetic resources, improve the quality of orchards, expand sales channels, expand the industry chain and support industry standardization, the regulation embodies a comprehensive approach to promoting excellence in the mango industry.
Mr. Liang Chongsun, director of the Legislative Affairs Committee of the Standing Committee of the Baise City People’s Congress, explains that the regulation primarily aims to promote “industrial development” by outlining the responsibilities of the government and related departments in promoting the development of the mango industry. By incentivizing and supporting mango growers, the regulation aims to create an enabling environment for the growth of the industry, thereby realizing the legislative objective of promoting the development of a high-quality mango industry.
“Prosperity of industry is crucial to increasing the income and welfare of farmers,” said Mr. Wei Zhengye, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Baise Municipal People’s Congress. Mango, a cornerstone of Baise’s industry, is receiving targeted regulation under new legislation that focuses on improving the quality of orchards, expanding sales channels and strengthening the brand. By standardizing these aspects, the regulation aims to improve the efficiency of the mango industry, increase farmers’ incomes and contribute to rural revitalization strategies.
The Bayasa Mango Industry Development Ordinance heralds a new era of prosperity for the mango sector in China, proposing a legislative framework that can propel the industry towards sustainability, efficiency and economic growth.
