The biocenter in Chuvashia is ready to provide the entire Volga region with insects useful for agriculture. They can protect crops from pests.
Biocenter “Green House” of the agricultural company “Oldeevskaya” in Chuvashia is ready to provide farmers of the Volga region with entomophages – insects useful for agriculture, the head of Chuvashia, Oleg Nikolaev, reports in his Telegram channel. Entomophages are natural enemies of other insect pests that eat and infect crops, while the entomophages themselves do not harm plants. Such insects include ichneumons that lay their eggs in other insects, ants that eat caterpillars, and many other species. “Green House” has at its disposal ten species of insects that feed on various pests: aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, and so on.
Entomophages are in demand in gardens, greenhouses, and berry fields. Their main advantage is that they allow reducing the pesticide load in agriculture. Insects are a harmless alternative to insecticides – preparations that destroy harmful insects.
The production of own protection against insects is in demand in Russia, the head of the region noted. According to him, many of the country’s greenhouse complexes depended on the supply of imported pesticides and, under the sanctions, turned out to be defenseless, since they do not have their own biological laboratories. At the same time, the use of insects will be an environmentally friendly alternative to pesticides and will lead to more useful crops for the consumer.
The biocenter has already sold the first batch of insects worth 1 million rubles. The “Green House” is ready to provide the entire Volga region with insects – the center’s capacity is enough for this. The biocenter has been protecting fields from pests since 1982 and has extensive experience in this field.
