The Chegemsky district is set to become home to the largest greenhouse complex in the region, which is currently being constructed for year-round cultivation of vegetables and berries in a closed ground. According to the district’s press service, the construction is being carried out on schedule. The first phase, covering an area of 40 hectares, is expected to be completed by the summer of this year. The structural assembly has been completed, and work is now underway to install engineering communications, administrative and ancillary buildings. Upon completion, the new enterprise will create more than 800 new jobs, with the potential to increase to 2,000 when the complex reaches full capacity. The entire greenhouse complex, spanning an area of 100 hectares, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The need for increased agricultural production and the growing global demand for fresh produce has led to an increase in the number of greenhouse constructions worldwide. According to the latest data from ResearchAndMarkets, the global greenhouse market size is expected to grow by USD 3.94 billion during 2020-2024, with a CAGR of over 4%.
Greenhouse cultivation offers several advantages, including the ability to control the growing environment, reduce water usage, and produce higher yields per unit area. Moreover, year-round cultivation enables farmers to maximize their land use and produce crops even during off-seasons.
